Where can I get the most respected sports management degree online?
I am looking to get into coaching and a sports management degree I think is the way to go. I have been looking at online schools and so far my leading school is Ashford University. Does anyone know anything about Ashford or any other schools offering the degree? Or, Does anyone know a better way to prepare for a career in coaching? Any advice would be great. Thank You.

There are tons of online programs. I personally attended traditional and online-only schools, and I have taught for various online schools and traditional schools over the last five years. All are accredited and solid programs. Schools tend to vary in price, so we could say online schools are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive than a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies. The key is to find a program that is fully accredited. Is it worth it? YES. My career has boomed since my MBA at nearly 5 years ago. I am close to finishing my PhD through distance education, and I am at the job that I want. I know I wouldn’t be here without the education. If you are looking at work in the U.S., then you need a school that is accredited and recognized by the Dept of Ed. I can give more info on that later. You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

basically you will have the knowledge of an engineer but you will also think like a business man. So with an engineering management degree you can create your own engineering firm or say for example an engineer designs a device, you would be in charge of delivering that device to the public at a price that would cover the cost of inventing, manufacturing and selling it. It's a really good degree it will increase your career options

Study this at the graduate level. Businesses are not generally interested in hiring "Global Managers" or "International Businessmen" straight out of undergrad school.

With a financial management degree you can go into corporate finance, Investment management ,portfolio management, financial marketing,investment banking ,retail banking ,insurance and a host of other fields ,Let me assure you that if you are really good in that field and if you have a good management degree in that field there will be no shortage of work ever. But a DEGREE IS A MUST. you can never ever break into banking or high finance without a degree no matter how good you are. The other benefit of finance degree is that on an average you can go much higher in the corporate ladder than with just a mechanical degree .The reason is that in most companies they have a technical level and after the senior technical lever the management level starts. So even if you are good in say mechanical you will be forced to take a management degree at some point if you want to go up .so if you have one its a huge advantage. But then above and beyond all it depends on your aptitude.

I majored in Sport and Entertainment Management and do not care to be in sports or entertainment. It is pointless to change majors after 3 years of college-- when you are MORE than ready to graduate. Any suggestions on what I can use this degree for? I want to be on the business side of things-- work my way up. I hear it is all about experience but how can I start? Do business people respect someone with this degree or look at it like a joke? We did a LOT of management prep in school.

I have a friend who got her degree in social work. She tried being a social worker and she hated it. So she took an executive assistant job at a large financial company. They asked her to arrange a party and she did a really good job of it. Now she's in charge of all event planning for the company and she loves her job. Your degree sounds like a perfect match for a job like that.

I've been working in HR for about 20 years. HR is a great field, but right now, it's pretty flooded, so it's tough to break in. With a BA in HR, you would start as entry level management, but there's a large administrative component to it. Most people think that HR is mostly dealing with people, while in most cases, it's less than half of the job. A lot of time is spent pushing paper or processing information (they never seem to tell you that in school). While you're in school, try to get a part time/summer job or internship in an HR department, even in the school. If you're good, you can move up, but a lot will depend on the type of organization that you work for and how well they do in this economy. Don't go get a master's degree in the field until you've worked in it for a while and are sure that you like it. A master's degree in another field can be just as useful (management, finance, industrial psychology, etc.) and can give you more flexibility. Good luck! I have a friend that goes to a college that doesn't offer a management degree but offers an administration degree. I go to a college and it's vice versa where it offers management and not administration. Is there really a difference between the two when administration you get to be big up in the company however that ususally won't happen right out of college since many people have to work up. Same with the management you start off small manager with the potentical of climbing up the ladder to hopefully be in the business administration sector of it.

My dream is to work as project manager, director or something of that sort for a non-profit organization. Human rights is one of my favorites, but is not just closed to that. Does anyone know what would be a good specialization for a business management degree? Something to specialize in that would help me land a job in that Field? Specialize in something hard not the soft subjects you listed. Accounting and finance come to mind. This will open a lot of doors for you.

I have a Business Management degree and have worked at a non-profit. My choices were not as broad as yours, but here is what I did. I choose general management. Choices were supply chain, general, finance and one other that I can't remember. I went back later on and got a second degree in marketing. Marketing really helped me because all business basics are covered but marketing is always necessary in whatever you do. You have to be able to keep your client happy, you have to be able to attract them into doing business with you. My second degree has actually been favorably looked upon. Maybe you can try something like that.

As to whether it is necessary to have the degree, the answer is no. The only time it is truly necessary to have a degree is when you wish to be hired by an existing company that requires a degree, or when you wish to be credentialed for for some practice that requires a degree, such as medicine or engineering. The things you should get from the degree include business computing skills, business communication, a bit of human resources, possibly a good internship, and maybe some other things like marketing and job seeking skills. I would get ahold of their catalog and read the course description for every course in the curriculum. If the descriptions sound like things that could be useful to you then you might give it a shot. Alternatively, you might just take only the classes you're most interested in. It's likely that the community college offers a one year certificate with many of the same courses, so you might think of doing that instead. I will offer one caveat - what if your plan doesn't work out and you decide you'd be better off with a bachelors or masters degree, like an MBA or MBF? The problem with the degree you're considering is that it is probably not a good choice should you decide to try to transfer. If you think you may eventually be interested in a four year degree or beyond, you might look into your community college's general studies curriculum. Also, check out to see whether this college has a career center. Those folks should be able to help you out. If not, speak to an advisor from the business program. Good luck!

Can I use a business management degree to get in to personal management or human resource management?
I am currently in school for Criminal Justice to become a Paralegal, but I am not liking that path and I want to switch degrees. Yep, most degrees are NOT confined to just one area of careers. With that business degree and depending on the school system, you might be able to teach in some of their schools.

you have have to switch majors and take human resources related courses - without the courses and probably a 4 yr degree in HR, you will never get a job in that field
