Can you start a small business with a business management degree?
I want to start a small baking business and am going for a certificate in baking and then a business management degree after but it isn't a bachelors. Would I be able to open a small shop with these in NJ or would I have to get a bachelors in business?

Studying a management course may contribute near to nothing when your really out there (in the market - I know because ive experienced it) However those degrees and your previous achievements may count in a lot in gathering investors especially considering that your going for banking industry where credibility is considered top priority. Ask yourself a question, would you rather save your money at a bank made by ivy grads plus 20 years of experience or just someone with B.A in management and bank license. Not to sound cruel and I know that i'm saying out of my lines but I wouldnt really go into banking industry if i were you. Also if you want to go make a bank you rather do economics than business management (both may be great) Don't take my words too hard because you know that major businesses started from scratch and those ceos (back in the days) werent ivy grads. But just know the statistics and facts before you start.

You could try a completely free home based online business.

There is no requirement for a degree in setting up your own business. The junior colleges usually have a small business program which is better.

How can I make sure that when I get my Business Management degree it's corporate not retail
How can I make sure that when I get my Business Management degree it's corporate not retail?
I noticed that some people when they go into Business Management they get their degree and go into retail which really only pays half the amount as corporate does. How do you make sure that the degree I get leads me into the corporate world, or middle management instead of retail managment?

Well, the obvious solution is not to apply to any retail jobs. If you want to improve your chances of being hired by a major corporation, though, keep your GPA up, keep an eye out for internship opportunities while you're still in school, and stay on top of the recruiting process (your school's career center can help you with that).

Health Information has become over saturated with new grads with no experience. Most employers are looking to hire people who have at least 2 years experience. But if you are truly interested in HIM, don't let this stop you. Your best bet is to try to get a job elsewhere in the field, gain your experience and then leverage for the job you want. I would suggest you looking for a low/ entry level job in medical records or billing in a hospital. Always volunteer or offer to help out other depts and learn all you can while helping. I did that when I first started out and it was invaluable. There was a huge surge of new grads the past couple of years, but I think people are getting frustrated with the lack of jobs for new grads and have left HIM for other fields. I think that will be advantageous to people like you who truly have an interest in it, and won't be graduating for a couple more years. by the time (i hope) things will have settled down a bit.

What can I do with an Event Management degree
What can I do with an Event Management degree?
Well, I'm getting my Associate of Arts degree in Public Relations and I've been looking into majoring in Event Management and maybe minoring in Advertising. But, then I started thinking about what job opportunities there were for a major like that. I know there's little stuff like wedding receptions etc. but I want to be a part of something big, like a music festival. I think you have to "know people" to be able to get into stuff like that right? Any input would be great.

What careers can I get from a 4 year Fashion Management degree
What careers can I get from a 4 year Fashion Management degree?
I would like to know what jobs are available after taking a fashion management degree? What jobs are available? I don't agree with you duffer a lot of students go into college without knowing what they want in life. The purpose of higher education could be to expand yourself as a person.

This is the cart before the horse! The purpose of higher education is to help you maximise your potential in your chosen career, not to indulge a whim and then look for a job to fit it!

Are you going into this program or have already been enrolled for awhile? If going in, emphasize the merchandising aspect. There is an ongoing need for buyers who know their stuff when it comes to quality, value, and style. Everyone from the haughtiest fashion stores to Wal-mart has buyers. If you have been in the program for awhile, you do need a lot of business courses, including at least one course in managerial accounting.
